2016 Open Payments Data Now Public
Clinicians and hospitals have until the end of the calendar year to dispute new data reported by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Any resulting changes will be reflected in the next data refresh, expected in January 2018. There were also several new functionalities added to the website, including the ability to compare payments for a particular physician or hospital to national or state averages and medians, as well as an option to filter by specialty.
At the end of June, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posted 2016 financial data to the Open Payments website, which publicizes payments and transfers of value from group purchasing organizations and drug/device manufacturers to physicians and teaching hospitals. In total, there were $8.18 billion in payments attributed to 630,824 clinicians and 1,146 teaching hospitals.
